» 9 January: HARVARD GSD CHINA TRIP 2016 SHANGHAI FORUM: HEADS FORUM

ChinaGSD’s Shanghai Forum is positioned as an intellectual component of ChinaGSD winter trip, and an exchange platform among schools and practices in China and the US. This year, the Forum focuses on the dual-fold relationship between design education and professional practice: how should higher education in- tellectually contribute to the discipline, and how could professional practice inform and influence comtempo- rary pedagogies? With emerging technological opportunities and ever-changing social challenges today, how should architecture and urban design professionals persist and innovate the disciplines’ core values through the integration of design and research practices?

We bring together department heads from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Hong Kong and Tongji University to present and discuss their thoughts on pedagogy and practice: they are not only dis- tinguished educators and scholars, but also well-known practitioners in the field. By presenting this forum, we hope to rethink the relationship between education and professional practices in contemporary society, and to explore the future integration between the academia and the profession.
