在城市发展和更新的过程中，碎片化的公共空间与资源之间最终会达到动态的平衡。香港大学上海学习中心将“剩余空间（Residual Space）的研究方法应用于设计教学与城市研究中，并持续观察上海中心城区，尤其是滨水地带在城市、景观与社区空间中独特的发展现象。《城市蜕变:上海滨水空间、景观与社区的更新》展览将梳理香港大学上海学习中心多年来对北外滩及其他虹口区的研究与教学成果，从城市形态、历史、文化比较、资本业态、居民个体内心与意识、社会问题等多个主题， 以建筑学的独特视角为观者打开进入历史、文化、艺术和当下现实空间语境的渠道。展览将作为苏州河畔的公共艺术项目介入一江一河沿线的城市发展之中，在呈现城市、社区、景观三个层级的研究和项目的同时，邀请公众共同探讨亚洲滨水城市发展的可能性。

During the process of urban development and renewal, fragmented public space and resources will eventually reach a dynamic balance. Shanghai Study Center of The University of Hong Kong applies the research method for “Residual Space” to design studio and urban research, which focus on the unique development of the downtown area of Shanghai, especially the waterfront area. The exhibition: “City Metamorphosis: Renewal of Waterfront Space, Landscape and Community” highlights the research carried out by the Shanghai Study Center on North Bund and Hongkou District, which touch on a broad topic including urban morphology, history, comparative cultural studies, economy, and social issues. The research and the exhibition aim to provide a new perspective to understand history, culture, art and their relationship with architecture.  The exhibition will also serve as a public art project that engages with the present development along the Huangpu River and Suzhou River The exhibition hopes to open up discussions on the different possibilities of waterfront development in Asia from the aspects of city, community, and landscape.
